He’s the more flawed character, if it can be called that. I think first impressions Jack is rather immature for people aged like him 30 years old. However, with any other books, I would completly lost my intrest.
The novel starts in earlywith General Sir John Armstrong returning from Canada to England after a five-year absence. Elizabeth is horrified at the idea of marrying a virtual stranger so soon after losing her beloved husband, but her prospects otherwise are dire, and Jack feels bound to his word.
This happens a little too fast for my taste, but the author shows a very realistic progress from a marriage of convenience to a partnership based on mutual respect and love. Another part I liked most is about the last war between English and French armies.
The background of the Napoleonic wars intertwines well with the storyline. Oh, yes, she had good breasts, the kind that would fill his hands with their heavy softness when he freed them from her corset and set his mouth to them.
