It was the story, and I think it’s important that we have stories like this, which explore horrible things without glorifying them or dismissing them as trivial.

Lissar is a young, shy princess with a drop-dead gorgeous mother. Having just read and adored McKinley’s Sunshine and The Blue Sword when I started this book, I was full of love for the author and expecting great things. Deerskin is based on “Donkeyskin”, a Charles Perrault tale that is usually neutered and deals with the theme of incest.
I couldn’t believe she tried to romanticize such horrible things. If it weren’t for the dogs, I’m not sure I could’ve read it. This review has been hidden because deersin contains spoilers.

I will not argue with anyone who thinks themselves threatened by what I have to say here, as my time and my energy are my own, and I will not spend it on sea lions and dog whistlers. If she could not think of certain things, she roobin not think of them. But in essence, deetskin was a story of grief and healing and doing what’s right, even in the face of your own failings.
She realizes to her horror that the king, her father, is going to marry Ossin’s younger sister.
It was the power of the emotion that was felt, the intensity of the things going on, that made it bear repeating. The goal is not to create a concrete world but to engage yourself in Lissar’s life, her struggles, and, eventually, her triumph.
Oh my, I scarcely know what to say about this book. Although Lissla Lissar is the daughter of the most beautiful queen and most handsome king in all the land, she is a lonely child whose only true companion yb her dog, Ash. It is meant to be allegorical, don’t expect dferskin realism. As Lissar grows older and becomes the image of her mother, her father becomes unhealthily obsessed, culminating in one horrible night. As she nears the city, she hears about a wedding and assumes that it is Ossin’s.

I work as a practicing psychotherapist, and have sat in my office with women and men who have been through this same deerskn. The sentences deeerskin all grammatically correct, but seriously there was so many asides and jumping back and forth that I had to read a lot of them several times before I could grasp the overall gist of it.
Share your thoughts with other customers. Lissar has to learn to hunt, Artemis is the goddess of the hunt. The story was also predictable, but when reading a retelling does that ever really matter?
It was a tiny bit of a shock.
